In my ever continuing quest to broaden the scope of my skill set, I took some time to muscle through the character rigging and animation workflow in Cinema4D.

Character rigging is definitely an art form that takes time and practice to master…some might argue that the process takes years! Now I didn’t spend years, nor did I sit and watch tutorials for hours on end to create this character and rig. I took a simple character that I am using on a project and decided to rig him up so that I could pose him in any way I wanted without much hassle. Now, it took some time and LOTS of experimentation, but I got the rig to a point where it worked and could be animated with Xpresso controls built in.

Next came the daunting task of animating the walk cycle, and for those that have never tried it…what an endeavor! The human walk cycle looks so fluid and effortless UNTIL you try to re-create it yourself! After some trial and error, I think I got to a point that the walk looked fairly decent for a first time out of the gate. I know that by no means is the animation perfect, but you gotta start somewhere. Check out the result below…
